American help for AustriaThe American red cross, managed by Mr.W.de St.Aubin and Mrs. Opal Hall, provided districts of the American zone in Vienna. Children, calming mothers and pregnant women received 1/4 liters of milk with dry egg and vitamins. The Viennese children's offices (Bezirksjugendämter) at the American zone were provided with powdered milk. Also needy persons in the American zone of Vienna received food aid. Between Septembers 1945 and July 1946 the Americans organized a cooking for needy persons, whereby 182.000 kg food was distributed. The American red cross supported 9 children's hostiles and 24 hospitals in the American zone. The American red cross organized standard-food-packages, which were distributed to fugitives (DPs) and politically or racially pursued persons. Each person received 2 packages, more than 77.000 persons. The American red cross also supported the Austrian red cross and presented 7 ambulances and 5 heavy transport vehicles for Vienna and the federal states in Austria. In December 1946 a large donation of clothes and shoes was made available the Vienna administration (Sachbeihilfenlager and Wohlfahrtsamt).
