The Swiss worker's aid (Arbeiterhilfswerk)
This organization had the patronage over the largest home of the City of
Vienna, namely the children's hostile in castle Wilheminenberg. This became
possible through the provision of furniture, textiles, etc. by "Swiss
Donation (Schweizer Spende)". The "Swiss Donation (Schweizer Spende)"
sent in the first months of operation 50.000 kg foods. About 250 children were
provisioned for their 6-week stay in the children's hostile and received foods
with daily 2.500 calories, whereby more than a quarter was from "Swiss
Donation (Schweizer Spende)". The hostile fed children before school-age
between 3 and 6 years, in winter-months also school-age children, who were
educated. 1.021 children were helped.
The Swiss worker's aid (Arbeiterhilfswerk) stood in contact with the
socialist Worker men's aid Vienna (Arbeiterhilfe Wien). Worth mentioning is still
the so-called standard - package, which contained foods with total weight of 6
kg. Until end 1946 21.687 packages were distributed in Vienna.
