Cure for children in Switzerland

After Swiss family already took Italian, French and children from other countries the Childrenaid of Swiss red cross found more families in Switzerland to take in hygienically endangered children from Vienna or Lower Austria (Niederösterreich).

Usually this stay was limited on 3 months, tuberculosis-endangered children could remain 4 months. The first Swiss Children's train (Kinderzug) drove in December 1945 from the station Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof to the west, until December 1946 there were already 32 transports.

Altogether 16.355 Austrian children could be housed at Swiss families. The age of these children were between 5 and 10 years. A school-doctor exhibited a bulletin over the state of health of the children, what was the basis for the selection for a vacation in Switzerland.
