Zurich helps Vienna

In spring 1946 this initiative organized the so-called potatoe-initiative (Kartoffelaktion). After 1945 only little plains were used for the planting potatoes, the Vienneses could not be provided with potatoes in wintermonths. In spring 1946 the aid delivered by "Zurich helps Vienna" helped with about 1.500 tons potatoes for Austria.

That help was especially for pupils at "food help for pupils", the children in the children's hostiles of the city of Vienna and in private welfare-organizations as well as in factory's canteens. More potatoes were distributed to youths. The city of Zurich submitted to the city of Vienna 12 cooking-shacks. To Christmas 1946 "Zurich helps Vienna" organized collections of food, 200 tons foods arrived in Vienna.
