About 14.500 children received regularly 2 times weekly 1/2 liters dissolved powdered milk and sometimes also malt. The "Swiss Donation (Schweizer Spende)" supplied still sporadically homes and institutes, kindergartens and boarding schools, hospitals and private welfare-organizations with food. Each schoolchild in Vienna received in September 1946, when school started, a board chocolate, likewise Kindergarten-kids and participants ofFoodhelp-initiatives. This were still 190.902 children. Christmas 1946 presented for 319.191 children in Vienna, Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) andBurgenland a board chocolate, 27.441 children received even aCompo - can, the chocolate and bonbons contained. Besides December resulted in November and 1946 additional ration of millet, oatmeals and sugars at the children of Vienna. Over them "Swiss Donation (Schweizer Spende)" received diverse homes in Vienna and Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) over 7000 blankets as well as theJugendämter of Vienna and Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) about 24.000 diapers. For repairs the urban welfare-institution received wool and darning cotton. Still 11.494 pair of men -, ladies- and childrenshoes were submitted to urban welfare-institution in Vienna. Materials for shoemaking were made available by the Swiss. In these factories 13.000 pair of childrenshoes were manufactured for kids in Vienna and Lower Austria (Niederösterreich). Them "Swiss Donation (Schweizer Spende)" cared also for sewing machines, household items, Furniture and installation for shoemaker's and tailor's workshops of the Swiss missionCaritas. The provision of 5000 instruments made possible the start of canteens. The tuberculosis (TBC) raging in Vienna, this was called already Vienna disease, had reached frightening extents.
