Anna Maria Walburga Pertl was born on December 25, 1720 in (today's) district court building in the Ischler Strasse 15, St.Gilgen at Wolfgangsee (lake Wolfgang), as a daughter of the court secretary Wolfgang Nikolaus Pertl. After her father's death her mother and she moved to Salzburg 1724. She married Leopold Mozart on November 21, 1747, they had seven children. Only two survived: Wolfgang Amadeus and Nannerl. She lived as household inconspicuously and reservedly. Father Leopold wrote on July 20, 1778 on the occasion of her death to Wolfgang Amadeus in Paris: "Deine liebe seel: Mutter war von Kindheit an bekannt und aller Orten geliebt, dann sie war mit allen freundlich und beleidigte keinen Menschen." (your dear soul: mother was loved everywhere from childhood, she was friendly with all and never offended)
